.001 | All the important questions

Fancy that. It does work! Will wonders never cease. Bit of fancy metal... never thought'd be really what they told us, eh?

[ So have this guy staring around this here Gear thingamabob. ]

Right, so... this lady what claims to be my mum said this'd be some sort of communication device so figured I'd give it a go. Bit of a question for you lot.. hang on. C'mere you-- [ And he's reaching off with one arm to tug a Duskull closer to him. ]

How d'you know if this little blighter's a boy or a girl? Couldn't really decide on a right name for it yet.

[ Oddly enough, the Duskull seems happy for the attention and actually waves to the camera. ]

And one more thing. Are any of you lot familiar with the name William T. Spears or Grell Sutcliffe? If you are, d'you mind passing on word that I've gotten here?

The name's Ronald Knox of London's Grim Reaper Dispatch Department, by the way. Thanks!

Well, I'll take you on your word, then, although I have to admit, I don't have the foggiest idea what that's all about. I'm not expecting an immediate explanation if it's something classified of course, but if it isn't...?

[He trails off, hoping that the question is obvious enough that he doesn't need to ask it.]

In any case, it is a rare treat to see someone else from London, though, given that it's rarer than you'd really expect.

Cor, I'll give you that... always good to have someone with something familiar round, I'll tell you. There was a bloke I spoke with a while ago who's actually a familiar face.

[ And yes, the boy latches on pretty quickly. ]

Explanations are fine. The only thing that's out of the question are the how's and why's. Can't change the course of someone's death and all that. S'just not how the world works. You sound like a sharp one. Wager you've prolly heard the fairy tales about Death and all? The bloke with the scythe and the cloak?

Ah, really? I'd say that's good to hear, but that's only good in certain specific cases.

[And he'll leave it at that.]

Ah, no, I think I'm following you. I wasn't thinking it was quite so literal, of course --- it sounded more like some sort of group of assassins or other.

So, do you work for him, or is he more of a metaphorical representation of what you do? I'd generally assume the latter, but you really never know in this place.

S'not so bad. Wasn't a bloke I knew personally but he seems alright.

[ There's a pause there as he gives it a thought. ]

Ah... best to describe grim reapers as a collective. The names I was asking for, Misters Spears and Sutcliffe are my seniors, actually. Mister Spears'd be my manager. So it's half and half.

Those stories are a bit of a representation of what we do but not the system, you follow?
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-09-16 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Well, sometimes that's the best you can hope for.

And... yes, that actually sounds like what I was thinking. Like I said, you never really know what to expect when it comes to these kinds of things, so I figure I'd ask rather than assume.

How do you get into that line of work, though?
hardknoxlife: ([um] Say that you want me)

You get by with what you have, eh? Specially in circumstances like this.

[ There's a pause there though. ]

Ah, would you believe I haven't the slightest idea? Kind of just woke up and... bob's your uncle. First day of training.

True enough. Or at the very least, you learn extremely quickly.

[...that was an experience.]

...hah, what, just like showing up here?
enjoymyatelier: it's me. (in my dream i am mister darcy.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-09-19 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you'll do well enough here, then, I'd imagine.

Anyway, this place isn't really so bad, though it has its... vexations. Still, I suppose waking up and being told you're a Pokemon Trainer must be cheerier than waking up and being told you're a Grim Reaper.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-09-21 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I get what you mean. Even waking up here seems like it's something of a paradigm shift for most people... well, some more than others, I'd say.

Anyway, I've been here two years as of this April, which is... certainly a while. Of course, I've gotten used to it by now, and there's hardly a dull moment to speak of.
enjoymyatelier: i am just done with this shit (ugh whatever)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-09-25 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's more that we get sent back on a whim, really. You could be here about a month... or you could be here even longer than two years. There isn't really much rhyme or reason to it, I'm afraid.
enjoymyatelier: it totally was. (that wasn't awkward at all nope)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-09-28 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...er, yes.

[HE WAS FOLLOWING THIS CONVERSATION BUT THAT JUST GOT A LITTLE TOO COMMON FOR HIM]

Anyway, it really isn't that terrible of a situation, and the worst that can be said is that this place can get somewhat annoying at times... so really, calling it a vacation isn't terribly inaccurate.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-10-05 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can't actually die here, but I'd advise that you don't underestimate the local wildlife and keep an eye on your belongings. The first few routes don't look like much, but if you let your guard down they will steal your lunch.

[...this definitely didn't happen to him, no sir]

[ ...wow that sounded oddly specific. ]

Keep a hand on my grub. Got it. Hopefully, Grim'n I'll settle ourselves down somewhere and make head or tail of all this.

[ A beat. ]

Ah, right. I might've forgotten to ask for your name somewhere along the line. Sorry about that!
enjoymyatelier: it's difficult to believe but people actually like this guy (possibly gentlemanly)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2014-10-18 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's as good an idea as any, even though it's possible that you'll still be somewhat lost several years from now.

Anyway, I should have introduced myself, admittedly --- I am Lord Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi.

Something like that, yes. It's at least very rarely boring.

And that's very likely to happen, barring anything drastic. So yes, nothing to worry about.
