003 | Too much of a good thing

[ Today, you are greeted with a whump and a crash... and the sound of a panicked Duskull as it floats over to check on its trainer who had apparently fallen out of bed along with his Gear. ]

...Bimey... what time is it...?

[ There's a pause though as Ronald reaches for his glasses and goes to check the time, his grogginess suddenly disappearing the minute he realizes what time -- and day -- it is. ]

Hang on... I've been asleep for HOW LONG?! That's... not right. At least I'm awake in time for Christmas...

[ And have a small grin before he ends. ]

Bit of advice for you lot: Killua's made some fantastic absinthe lollies for this month's menu... but don't have ten in one go or you might end up like me.

Well I've been to all the cities in Johto. I'm about to move on to the other region, Kanto... I've only seen a couple cities there, so there should be a few new things to see, at least.

The adventure continues then, eh? You know...

[ And he'll just smile back, as if he's gotten the best idea. ]

I'll prolly be going on the road with a friend pretty soon... anywhere you'd recommend if you wanted to relax?

To relax? Olivine. It's on the beach, it's got a comfortable hotel and a lighthouse with an excellent view. Definitely the most enjoyable city to stay in. I imagine the only reason more people stay in Goldenrod is for convenience's sake.

S'that right...? Always fancied a trip to the sea. Wager now's as good a time as any to go!

[ He'll just make a note of that because that's probably one place he'll make them take a little detour on... just in case. ]

Goldenrod's prolly a bit closer'n Olivine is to that town we all start at. Could be why everyone's here... but I'll take your advice to heart, Miss Twilight! Sounds like an ace location for a holiday.

Of course, right now might not be the best time. The beach is best in summer, after all. But still, it's actually warmer than you might expect. The ocean does a great job holding in summer's warmth even this late in the year.

Course it is! But it's good to know, all the same.

[ Give him a second to check the map on his Gear. ]

It'll prolly be the right season by the time we get there, anyroad. S'not like we're leaving right away.

Where are you right now, anyway? I might legitimately laugh if you say Goldenrod.

You'd be right there, m'afraid. Course, it's Goldenrod right now out of convenience like you said, love. Joker's an... acquaintance... of mine from back home and it so happens the Circus's my temporary residence.

[ He's pretty amused by the situation himself. After all, here they had been just talking about everyone flocking to Goldenrod out of convenience. But if the small smirk is any indication, he does see the irony in their conversation. There's a pause though as he rubs his nose. There's more to his tale after all. ]

My boss just happened to arrive with the newest batch and he's mentioned wanting to take the gym challenge so... s'not like I could let the old boy go off on his own, eh? Wouldn't be right!

[She can't help it. Just as she warned, she laughs. It's not for very long and it's hardly mean, but she does laugh.]

Sorry, I'm sorry, it's just so fitting. Well we'll see if you can escape.

The circus though, that must be fun. I haven't actually gone yet, I keep winding up busy when they're performing.

[ There isn't any doubt he's just as amused. After all, they've just been talking about it. He does chuckle along with her though, shaking his head at the irony of the situation. ]

It is! M'not doubting that for a second. Course, it'd all depend on Mister Spears and when he wants to leave. M'just going along for the ride.

[ And he does grin back at the second bit. Time for him to put in a good word for himself. ]

That's a bleeding waste though, your being busy and all. It'll be worth the small holiday to go, if you ask me. Course, never did think I'd be doing it meself though I prolly would've fancied it as a young tosser.

Tell you what: next time a show's on, I'll let you know and I can show you around personally. What d'you say?

[She definitely did not expect that offer, and he has her flabbergasted.]

Oh, I... well that's not at all necessary, but I suppose... well I certainly don't see any reason to turn you down.

[And so after a bit of consideration she smiles brightly and nods.]

So sure! Why not?

[ And that smile is returned with one that's equally bright. ]

I promise there'll be nary a dull moment!

Course... I'd rather it be when you're available though.

That won't be as much of a problem these days. I don't have... anyone else to plan my schedule around, anymore.

[Aaaand her smile's wobbling now.]

[ aw crap... now that's not right. He'll just... try to offer her a smile in turn. No way is a girl going to cry. Not on his watch. It wouldn't be right. ]

Cor now, whoever's now waiting for you back home'll prolly have my head for taking away that lovely smile.

You'll see them again. M'sure you will.

[Well, his first comment does make her laugh weakly.]

Oh they wouldn't do that for something that's not your fault. You couldn't possibly have known.

Anyway, once I go home, if nothing else, I'll see them all again. Until then it's all about trying to make the most of this world.

[ Ah well... at least it's a semblance of a laugh. That's a step in the favored direction if anything. ]

There's a better way of thinking! Always a silver lining no matter the circumstance, I say.

Personally speaking though, it wouldn't be right if I didn't make sure you went home in one piece.

Oh that's not something you need to worry about. I'm quite well protected, and a tactician in my own right.

Course... wouldn't hurt having another pair of eyes looking out for you, eh?

[But all her friends from home have gone home and she's not sure what her friends here are doing or where they are.]

I was going to Kanto, though, and there aren't really all that many people there.

That's... the other region, innit? The one that's a ferry away?

[ He still needs to get used to this place... but that isn't going to deter him. ]

Doesn't matter! We've got this doodad to talk on, after all. S'not like you'll be completely unreachable, the way I see it.

That's true. And I do check the thing every day, so it's not like I'll be hard to get ahold of.

Wager it sounds a lot better'n just going on your own, pokemon or no, if you ask me.

If you think about it like that, no one's really alone here unless they want to be.

... Or if they get their gear damaged, lost, or stolen, I suppose.

[ And have a momentary wince from that. ]

Blimey, Mister Spears'd have my head on a pike if that ever happened to my gear, I'd wager.

Specially since he got here, and all.

Don't worry, it's not very common. The gears are pretty sturdy and people don't often steal them. After all, just about everyone has them, so it's not like you could sell it.

That just leaves losing it, and it's not so small that doing so is particularly easy.
